Establishment of the Garment Manufacturers Association Sri Lanka
Supporting small and medium-scale garment manufacturers in Sri Lanka has been a vision we have nurtured for a long time. In May 2023, we took the first step by sharing a Facebook post inviting garment manufacturers to collaborate in creating a wholesale market for their products under the Garment Manufacturers Association Sri Lanka.
On December 10, 2023, we held a pivotal meeting at Camila School, Mattegoda, where leading Sri Lanka garment manufacturers gathered. Together, we examined product samples and explored the feasibility of establishing a wholesale market. However, given the significant investments required and concerns over production quality, we recognized the need for an alternative approach.
The Formation of the Garment Manufacturers Association Sri Lanka
During our discussions we recognized a major gap—there was no recognized body to represent small and medium-scale garment manufacturers in Sri Lanka. Without an official organization, addressing industry challenges, seeking guidance, and engaging with the government was difficult. Determined to fill this gap, we set out to create the Garment Manufacturers Association Sri Lanka to advocate for our collective needs and open new opportunities for manufacturers.
On December 11, 2023, we announced the formation of the Garment Manufacturers Association Sri Lanka through another Facebook post. The response was overwhelming—110 individuals expressed interest, and about 60 of them officially registered as members.
Official Establishment of the Garment Manufacturers Association Sri Lanka
On March 7, 2024, we took a significant step forward by organizing a gathering at the Faragon Hotel in Kottawa with our registered members. This meeting served as the foundation for the association, where we discussed the strength of unity, the benefits of collective action, and the challenges we could overcome together. A landmark moment in this event was the election of an official committee, marking the formal establishment of the Association of Small And Medium Scale Garment Manufacturers.
Mission of the Garment Manufacturers Association Sri Lanka
Our mission is clear: -to uplift and empower small and medium-scale garment manufacturers in Sri Lanka by addressing industry challenges, offering solutions, and fostering strong government relationships. This initiative, built with unwavering dedication and effort, strives to bring recognition and support to small businesses in the garment sector while paving the way for a brighter future.

- Provide a Unified Platform: A collaborative space for manufacturers to tackle industry challenges.
- Enhance Product Quality and Competitiveness: Helping members improve product quality and stay competitive in the global market.
- Advocate for Members’ Interests: Active engagement with the government and key stakeholders to promote the interests of garment manufacturers.
- Promote Collaboration and Sustainability: Encouraging innovation and sustainable practices within the garment sector.
